The Goods and Service Tax Council has made it mandatory for businesses with an annual turnover of over ₹ 5 crore to move to e-invoicing from year 2023. Businesses will have to generate electronic invoices for business-to-business (B2B) transactions starting January 1, 2023.
Earlier, businesses having turnover of ₹ 10 crore and above were required to generate e-invoices for all B2B transactions.
As discussed previously, manual invoicing takes a lot of paperwork before everything is authorized and validated. With e-invoicing, paperwork is reduced, which brings down the cost of the paper significantly.
Processing manual or paper-based invoices takes time and is prone to human errors. With e-invoicing, human intervention is reduced to a large extent, removing the probability of errors. Moreover, the global standards and regulations are always followed with e-invoicing.
The e-invoicing software applications are used to process the e-invoices. The applications are designed in a way to make the processing faster. With traditional invoices, an employee must verify all the details manually.
Since the advent of technology, humans are trying very hard to automate everything they can. So why not invoices? With e-invoicing tools, invoices are generated as soon as an order confirms.
E-invoicing software can improve security and compliance by providing secure and auditable electronic records of invoices and payment transactions. This ensures that businesses comply with relevant regulations and standards, such as tax and audit requirements.

Currently, the limit for E-invoice in GST is 10 crore. However, the yearly turnover requirement for e-invoices has been decreased to 5 crores. Businesses with a yearly revenue of more than 5 crores are required by the Goods and Service Tax Council to switch to e-invoicing as of the following year.
